The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has taken decisive action against Nyarkotey University College of Holistic Medicine and Technology in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, following the discovery that the institution was operating unaccredited academic programmes and an unlicensed health facility. On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, GTEC officials, in collaboration with personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, visited the university campus. GES Cautions Heads and Directors Against Using Threats and Authority to Intimidate Staff The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a strong directive to all Heads of Institutions and Regional Directors, urging them to refrain from using threats or exerting undue authority to intimidate staff.  This comes in response to several reports received by GES Management concerning such inappropriate conduct within the service. In a letter dated July 25, 2025, GES expressed concern over incidents where some educational leaders have been leveraging their positions to coerce or pressure staff members into carrying out their duties under fear or intimidation. National Teaching Council to request extension of deadline for scrapping teacher licensure exam The National Teaching Council (NTC) says it may petition the Ministry of Education for an extension to the teacher licensure phase-out timeline, in order to accommodate candidates who may not pass the final round of the examination expected to be conducted in the coming weeks.  This follows a directive from the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, instructing that the licensure examination be scrapped by the end of August 2025 and incorporated into the academic curriculum of teacher training institutions.  According to NTC Board Chairman, Mr. Kwame Alovi, embedding the exam into college coursework will enhance teacher readiness and reduce the high failure rates often associated with the current post-training model.  Performance in the exams has been a concern over the years, with 8,000 out of 20,000 candidates failing in 2023 and 44,000 out of 120,000 not making the mark in ...

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers has announced a change in the date for its much-anticipated picketing at the Ministry of Education. Initially slated for Friday, the exercise has been moved to Wednesday, July 30, 2025 , following strategic consultations. In an official statement issued by the Coalition’s Public Relations Committee, the decision was based on internal discussions and feedback from members across the country. According to the release, several frontline officials at the Ministry are often unavailable on Fridays, and the Minister himself is usually engaged outside the region on such days. Over 14,000 workers on govt payroll can't be validated - Finance Minister Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed that more than 14,000 individuals on the public payroll could not be identified or confirmed by the Ghana Audit Service. This was disclosed during the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget in Parliament on July 24.   The discovery forms part of government’s broader efforts to clean up the public payroll and eliminate ghost names as part of its fiscal discipline agenda. The Ghana Audit Service was tasked to carry out a thorough audit of payroll records across all 16 regions, and so far, 91% of this audit has been completed.  The exercise uncovered that 53,311 individuals—categorized as separated staff, such as those who have retired, resigned, passed away, or are on leave without pay—still appear on the system. The Ghana Education Service (GES), in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), has officially announced the opening of the online school selection portal for 2025 BECE candidates.  This important exercise is aimed at facilitating the capture and submission of candidates' school choices across the country. According to a circular issued by the GES Headquarters on July 24, 2025, the online portal will be open from Thursday, 24th July to Friday, 8th August 2025 . During this period, private BECE candidates are expected to access the portal via www.waecinternetsolution.org .
