Teachers Fund Clarifies Temporary Drop in Loan Affordability for Some Members. Management of the Teachers Fund has issued an official notice to clarify recent concerns surrounding the affordability of loan applications submitted by some members. According to the Fund, assessments conducted through the Third Party Referencing System (TPRS) revealed a decline in the affordability levels of certain applicants. This situation followed payroll deductions made for teachers’ Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and the National Teaching Council (NTC) Teacher Licence Fee. These deductions were captured in the December 2025 payroll and consequently affected the affordability calculations. In some instances, the deductions resulted in zero affordability. As a result, some applicants are currently unable to qualify for the loan amounts they applied for. Engagements between Management and the TPRS team indicate that the identified affordability challenges are expected to be fully corrected af...

High Court Freezes GNAT National Elections Over Alleged Constitutional ‘Subversion'. The High Court has placed a temporary hold on the Ghana National Association of Teachers’ (GNAT) National Officers’ Elections scheduled for January 7, 2026, following legal action challenging the credibility of the electoral process. The injunction stems from a suit filed by Mr. Charles Kwabena Amponsah, a teacher at Asare Bediako Senior High School and a contender for the position of GNAT National President. He argues that critical constitutional provisions governing the association’s elections were ignored, casting doubt on the legitimacy of the entire process. In his application, Mr. Amponsah pointed to what he described as serious irregularities in compiling the delegates’ register for the national elections. He maintained that the foundation of the current regional leadership was flawed, alleging that several district and regional conferences were organised in ways that did not comply with GNA...

Whenever a private number calls you, don’t panic – Dial this code immediately to see the number. Technology today has made life more convenient in countless ways, but it has also contributed to a rise in scams and fraudulent activities, such as 419 scams. One concern many people face is receiving calls from private or unknown numbers, which can feel unsettling, especially when the call is unexpected. Seeing a private number on your phone can make you wonder, "Who could this be?" and whether you should answer. While it's normal to feel cautious, there's no need to panic every time a private number calls. There are ways to identify who is contacting you even if the number is hidden. One method to help you identify private numbers is to assign a specific ringtone to the number, if you suspect the caller is someone you know. This way, when the private number calls, you'll know who it is without having to answer immediately.  For example, you can assign a unique ringto...

Why Teachers Are Being Wrongly Blamed for WASSCE Failures and the Truth Behind the Misconception.

Why Teachers Are Being Wrongly Blamed for WASSCE Failures and the Truth Behind the Misconception. The recent release of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results has sparked public debate, unfortunately fueled by a misleading narrative suggesting that student underperformance stems from teachers failing licensure examinations   This claim, made by the Hon. Minister of Education on Joy news’ Eduwatch program, is not only factually inaccurate but also conceptually flawed and damaging to the reputation of the teaching profession. The statement, “If teachers fail licensure exams, why would you be surprised if students fail WASSCE?”, fundamentally misrepresents Ghana’s teacher regulatory framework and wrongly conflates licensure candidates with fully qualified teachers. Clarifying the Legal and Professional Status of a Teacher The National Teaching Council (NTC) exists to professionalise teaching and uphold educational standards in Ghana. The Ghana Teacher Lice...

BECE Grading Guide: How to Convert Mock Raw Scores to WAEC Grades Instantly. Many BECE candidates feel confused and discouraged after writing mock examinations because they do not understand how their raw scores translate into final WAEC grades.  For instance, a student who scores 65% in Integrated Science may wonder whether that result falls under Grade 3 or Grade 4. Without clear guidance, such uncertainty can affect motivation and preparation. Understanding the WAEC stanine grading system is essential for every BECE candidate. Whether you have just completed a school mock or a private test, converting your raw marks into WAEC grades helps you measure your real standing and plan effectively for improvement. Understanding the WAEC Stanine Grading System WAEC uses a nine-point stanine grading scale, with Grade 1 being the highest and Grade 9 the lowest. Your percentage score in a subject is what determines the grade you finally receive. Knowing this connection allows you to track p...

Chief Examiners’ report reveals many candidates failed to answer application-based questions. The Chief Examiners’ report on the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has revealed that a significant number of candidates struggled to answer application-based questions, which largely contributed to the low performance recorded in the exams.  The report highlights that while many learners were familiar with key concepts, they were unable to apply them effectively in practical scenarios during the examinations. Figures released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) indicate that results in all four core subjects—English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies—were the lowest in the past four years. The data underscores a growing concern about the quality of secondary education and the preparedness of students to tackle modern, application-focused assessments. Speaking on Joy News’ Edutalk programme, Education Minister Ha...

According to the Ministry, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has now fully processed and released the two categories of allowances meant for teachers. The Ministry assured that the challenge has since been resolved, paving the way for the successful completion of payments. The Ministry further explained that the delay was not intentional but rather the result of a system glitch that temporarily halted the payroll process. In an official press statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Minister, Mr. Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry clarified that at no point did the Minister make such remarks during any public engagement, official interaction, or policy event.  The insinuation that the government has proposed or is considering a 13th‑month salary for teachers is baseless and unfounded.
