Education Ministry denies reports of 13th-month salary proposal for teachers.

The Ministry of Education has issued a decisive response to a misleading report circulating on the Opera News platform that falsely suggested the Hon. Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, advocated for the introduction of a 13th‑month salary for teachers at a policy forum in Accra.

The Ministry has unequivocally rejected these claims, describing the publication as a deliberate falsehood and misinformation intended to mislead the public. In an official press statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Minister, Mr. Hashmin Mohammed, the Ministry clarified that at no point did the Minister make such remarks during any public engagement, official interaction, or policy event.

The insinuation that the government has proposed or is considering a 13th‑month salary for teachers is baseless and unfounded.

While the government continues to pursue initiatives to enhance the welfare and working conditions of teachers and other education sector workers through structured dialogue and sustainable policy measures, the Ministry emphasized that no announcement, discussion, or advocacy for a 13th‑month salary has taken place.

In light of the inaccurate publication, the Ministry has urged Opera News to retract the article immediately and issue an unqualified public apology to both the Minister and the Ministry of Education. Members of the public have also been strongly advised to ignore the erroneous report and refrain from sharing unverified information, which could fuel unnecessary confusion and concern.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparent communication and assured stakeholders that all official policy updates will be disseminated through credible and authorized channels only.

Teachers and the broader public have been encouraged to rely on official sources for accurate information regarding government actions and policies affecting the education sector.
