Official GES 2025/2026 SHS Second Semester Calendar and WASSCE Timeline.

The Ghana Education Service has released the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 second semester for second cycle institutions.

The directive, issued through the Schools and Instruction Division, outlines reopening dates, contact weeks, examination timelines, and key public events to guide school administration, teachers, and students through the final phase of the academic year.

Second Semester Structure at a Glance

The calendar is designed to provide adequate instructional time while prioritising examination readiness, especially for final-year students preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

WASSCE 2026: What Schools Should Note

The WASSCE remains the most critical academic activity of the second semester for Form 3 students. For the first time in several years, the examination will begin much earlier.

WASSCE period: 20 April – 20 June 2026

The examination will follow the standard regional format, not a country-specific arrangement.

Schools are expected to intensify teaching, revision, and assessment schedules to meet the demands of the early start.

Key Holidays and National Events.

•Independence Day: Friday, 6 March 2026 (Public Holiday)

•Military Open Day: Monday, 9 March 2026

Students are encouraged to participate in guided visits to military installations to interact with personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

•Easter Vacation (Transitional Schools): 1 April – 8 April 2026

Final Note for Schools and Teachers

The early WASSCE schedule places significant responsibility on school leadership and teachers to plan effectively, maximise contact hours, and support students academically and emotionally throughout the semester. Proper adherence to the calendar will be essential for a smooth and productive academic period.
