Education Minister Exposes Misuse of Government Learning Tablets in Senior High Schools. He said... The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has disclosed that some Senior High School students are diverting government-issued tablets from their academic purpose to access pornographic content.  The revelation has sparked widespread concern over the effectiveness of digital learning controls in schools and the moral implications of unchecked access to technology. Addressing Parliament of Ghana, the minister explained that the tablets were supplied under the Free SHS programme to strengthen digital education by giving students direct access to curriculum-based learning materials.  However, he revealed that many of the devices were distributed without adequate customisation and security restrictions, creating loopholes that have allowed students to misuse them for non-academic and inappropriate activities. Mr. Iddrisu stated that the national rollout of the tablets cove...

'This is not a Christmas or end-of-year package' – NAGRAT president on delayed allowances. The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the delayed payment of teachers’ allowances, following comments by its President, Angel Carbonu, during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem. Mr. Carbonu disclosed that assurances given to the association just last week regarding the release of the outstanding allowances have not been honoured. He described the situation as frustrating and unfair to teachers who were made to genuinely expect payment within the month. According to him, the collective agreement between teacher unions and government clearly spells out that the payment should be made in November. He explained that NAGRAT had already informed its members based on this official agreement, and the current delay has understandably created anxiety and disappointment among teachers nationwide. The NAGRAT President cautioned that the con...

Earlier this month, Ghana’s leading teacher unions, GNAT, NAGRAT, and PRETAG, issued a formal statement expressing serious concern over delays in disbursing two essential allowances: the Continuous Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) and the Continuous Digital Skills Allowance (CDISA).  These payments, scheduled under the 2024 Collective Agreement for November 2025, remain unpaid, generating widespread frustration and anxiety among teachers nationwide. Many educators rely on these allowances not only to enhance their professional skills but also to meet personal financial obligations, making the delay particularly burdensome. Union leaders Thomas T. Musah (GNAT), King Ali Awudu (PRETAG), and Eric Agbe-Carbonu (NAGRAT) highlighted that timely payment of CPDA and CDISA contributes significantly to sustaining teacher morale and ensuring stability within the education sector.  They not...

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has issued a full clarification on the delayed payment of two categories of allowances that were expected to reflect in the November 2025 payroll.  This update has become necessary as many teachers and other public sector workers have been raising concerns, seeking answers, and wanting clear direction on when the outstanding allowances will finally be paid. In its detailed communication, the department noted that the delay was not intentional but the result of a technical hitch that occurred during the final payroll run for November 2025. This unexpected challenge affected the smooth processing of two specific allowances. Due to the sensitivity of the government payroll system, CAGD explained that attempting to force the allowances through the system could have created further disruptions, including delaying the payment of No...

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has directed its members across the country to withdraw their services effective Monday, 24th November 2025, in an indefinite nationwide strike.  This decision follows an emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) held on 19th November 2025, citing the government's persistent failure to honour critical financial commitments owed to teacher educators.  The industrial action is in response to the government's continuous refusal to fully implement the National Labour Commission (NLC) arbitral award delivered on 2nd May 2023, aimed at resolving longstanding concerns of CETAG members. The Association has outlined four key unresolved financial obligations prompting the strike. Parliament Questions Former Finance Minister’s Absence Amid Corruption Charges The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has questioned the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on why former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has yet to return to Ghana from the United States. Ayariga noted that Ofori-Atta was unwell while serving as Finance Minister and remained in Ghana before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 general elections. However, shortly after the elections, he reportedly traveled to the US for medical treatment. Speaking in Parliament on Friday, November 21, Ayariga asked, “Ken Ofori-Atta was sick when he was Finance Minister; we all saw it, and he stayed in Ghana. How come today, he has refused to return when he’s being sought after by the law enforcement agencies?” In response, Afenyo-Markin defended Ofori-Atta, stating, “Mr. Ofori-Atta has been transparent about his medical condition. Unemployed Trained Teachers Reject Government's 6,100 Teacher Recruitment Plan, Demand Transparency and Fairness in Employment Process. The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers has expressed profound disappointment and frustration with the government's plan to recruit 6,100 teachers, stating that it falls woefully short of addressing the country's pressing teacher shortage.  Representing over 17,000 unemployed College of Education graduates, the coalition says the announcement has precipitated uncertainty and anxiety among qualified teachers, exacerbating an already dire employment landscape. In a strongly-worded statement, the group emphasized that all qualified teachers deserve opportunities to serve in Ghana's educational sector, not just a privileged few.  They are demanding transparency, fairness, and accountability in the recruitment process, questioning whether it will be based on merit, cronyism, or other opaque factors. The coalition is calling on Education...
