A school bus transporting students of Wesley Grammar School caught fire on Friday, November 28, at the Kasoa Tollbooth, but fortunately, all passengers managed to escape unharmed.

The bus had 83 students and five teachers on board at the time of the incident. According to Richard Boafo, a sports teacher accompanying the students, they were on their way to Ngleshie Amanfro Senior High School for a sporting event when the fire broke out.

Speaking to Citi News, Boafo explained that smoke was first noticed coming from the vehicle, prompting immediate action to evacuate everyone safely. “We noticed smoke coming out of the bus, so we asked all the students to move out immediately. Fortunately, all 83 students and five teachers on board escaped safely, but the bus was completely burnt to ashes,” he said.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described a sudden rise in smoke and flames, which quickly engulfed the vehicle. Several passersby stopped to assist and ensure that all passengers moved away from the bus, preventing injuries. The quick response from both teachers and bystanders played a crucial role in avoiding what could have been a major tragedy.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and maintenance of school buses used for student transportation. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire, with early speculation pointing to either an engine malfunction or an electrical fault.

School officials have since reassured parents and guardians that the students are safe and that the school is taking steps to review and improve its transportation safety protocols.
