Government Declares Friday, December 5, 2025, as Statutory Public Holiday to Mark Farmers’ Day.

The Government of Ghana has officially declared Friday, December 5, 2025, as a statutory public holiday across the country in observance of Farmers’ Day.

The announcement was issued through the Ministry of the Interior in accordance with the Public Holidays Act, reaffirming the government’s commitment to recognising the vital role of farmers and fishers in national development.

Farmers’ Day is celebrated annually to honour the dedication, resilience, and sacrifices of farmers and fishers who work tirelessly to ensure food availability and support economic growth. The occasion serves as a reminder of the importance of agriculture to livelihoods, industrial raw material supply, and overall national progress.

It also provides an avenue for stakeholders to assess developments in the sector, highlight existing challenges, and promote new innovations aimed at improving productivity.

The declaration means that all public and private sector institutions, schools, businesses, and other establishments are expected to close for the day in line with the statutory requirement.

Citizens are encouraged to observe the holiday peacefully and responsibly while reflecting on the invaluable contributions made by those engaged in farming and fishing activities across the country.

Over the years, Farmers’ Day has become an important national celebration that brings attention to the need for sustained investment in agriculture, improved access to modern farming tools, and better support systems for farmers. The day also strengthens public appreciation for food producers whose efforts ensure food security and national stability.

The Ministry has therefore urged the general public to take note of the holiday and comply fully with the directive. As preparations toward the celebration continue, the government has once again reaffirmed its support for the agricultural sector and the men and women whose labour continues to feed the nation.
