Teachers Angered Over Unpaid Professional and Digital Allowances Despite November Salary Payments.
Despite the successful payment of November salaries, widespread dissatisfaction has emerged among teachers following the exclusion of their Professional Development Allowance and Digital Allowance.
What was expected to be a routine financial period has instead become a source of deep concern, as many teachers depend on these allowances to support both their professional duties and personal financial commitments.
The omission has generated complaints across several platforms, with teachers describing the situation as frustrating and unfair.
Shortly after salaries reflected in accounts, discussions intensified across staff rooms, online forums, and social media spaces for teachers. Many expressed disappointment, explaining that these allowances form part of their yearly financial planning.
The absence of the digital allowance has been particularly troubling for teachers who rely on it to acquire data, maintain electronic devices, and support modern teaching methods. While delays in benefits are not entirely new, teachers insist that the lack of clear communication this time has escalated their frustration.
In response to the growing public outcry, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department explained that the allowances have not been cancelled. According to the department, the delay is connected to ongoing administrative processes intended to improve the payment system.
Teachers have been assured that the outstanding allowances will be paid once these processes are completed. However, as at the time of reporting, no definite date has been officially announced, a situation that continues to fuel anxiety and speculation.
Meanwhile, the silence from major teacher unions has added to the tension. Bodies such as the Ghana National Association of Teachers, the National Association of Graduate Teachers, and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers are yet to issue formal statements on the matter.
Many teachers feel abandoned and are urging their leaders to engage the appropriate authorities and demand clear timelines for the release of the outstanding allowances.
Teachers maintain that these allowances are not optional benefits but essential support for effective professional practice. The digital allowance assists with internet access and the upkeep of teaching devices, while the professional allowance supports capacity building and classroom improvement.
As a result, the delay has affected not only classroom delivery but also the personal financial stability of many teachers.
Teachers are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to move beyond assurances and provide definite, transparent updates.
They are demanding a clearly communicated payment schedule, consistent engagement from payroll managers, and stronger advocacy from their unions. Many believe that timely information and prompt payment would ease tensions and help restore confidence among teachers nationwide.
