Controller and Accountant-General’s Department Warns Public Sector Workers to Update Ghana Card Details or Face Salary Suspension.
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has reminded all Government employees under Covered Entities to update and verify their Ghana Card details on the Government of Ghana Payroll System or risk salary suspension.
Background
As part of efforts to strengthen and improve the efficiency of the government payroll system, the Department recently introduced an upgraded e-Payslip platform. The new system is designed to allow employees to access their monthly payslips easily and conveniently.
However, after the rollout of the platform, the Department detected serious data discrepancies. These issues are mainly linked to National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers that were previously captured on the payroll system but do not match the official records held by the NIA. As a result, some employees are unable to access their payslips.
Required Actions
To address the situation, the CAGD has instructed Human Resource Departments of all Covered Entities to take immediate steps to:
•Correct the NIA numbers of all affected staff on the payroll system.
•Submit applications for correction or insertion of NIA numbers.
•Attach posting or transfer letters where applicable.
•Provide a clear printed copy of the employee’s Ghana Card to the CAGD.
The Department has already sent the full list of affected employees, currently flagged as having “no NIA” details, to the official corporate email addresses of the Covered Entities for urgent action.
Affected Institutions
Institutions covered by this directive include major public sector agencies such as:
•Ghana Education Service (GES)
•Ghana Health Service (GHS)
•Judicial Service of Ghana
•Ghana Prisons Service
•Ghana Immigration Service
•Ghana National Fire Service
•Electoral Commission
•Ghana Audit Service
Important Deadline
The CAGD has stated clearly that employees without verified NIA details will have their salaries suspended effective 15th March 2026. The Department explained that this requirement forms part of preparations for an upcoming nationwide employee re-verification exercise.
All affected employees are therefore urged to work with their Human Resource Departments to ensure their Ghana Card details are properly updated before the deadline to avoid any disruption in salary payment.
