Teachers to Benefit as GNAT Implements Firm Welfare Measures in 2026.

Teachers across the country now have reason to celebrate following the 2026 National Delegates Conference of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT).

The gathering brought together representatives from all regions to approve a series of resolutions aimed at improving teachers’ welfare, financial security, and professional development, underscoring GNAT’s commitment to supporting educators nationwide.

Financial stability received significant attention at the conference. The minimum contribution to the Teachers’ Fund has been increased from GH¢120 to GH¢150, ensuring the fund can continue to meet the growing needs of teachers. In addition, the interest rate on Teachers’ Fund loans has been reduced from 16% to 14%, making it easier for teachers to access funds for personal or professional purposes. These changes demonstrate GNAT’s responsiveness to the financial challenges that educators often face.

Teachers’ health and well-being were also a key focus. Contributions to the GNAT Cancer Fund have been doubled from GH¢5 to GH¢10, providing enhanced support for members coping with cancer and other health-related difficulties. At the same time, members were advised that Glico will no longer manage Tier Two pensions, and teachers are encouraged to track their contributions to the GESOPS Fund using the short code *733# to ensure transparency and accuracy in planning for retirement.

Professional growth remains a central priority. Teachers are encouraged to take advantage of programs offered by the GNAT Institute for Research, Innovation and Reform in Education and Services (IRIRS), where members benefit from a 20% reduction in admission fees. These opportunities equip teachers with the skills, knowledge, and innovative practices needed to excel in the classroom and advance their careers.

Flexibility in financial support was also addressed, with an expansion of Teachers’ Fund loan categories to offer tailored solutions that meet the diverse needs of educators. By providing options that suit different circumstances, GNAT ensures that every teacher has access to the financial tools necessary to thrive personally and professionally.

The resolutions adopted at the conference reflect a comprehensive approach to teacher welfare. By familiarizing themselves with these initiatives and making full use of the available benefits, teachers can improve their financial stability, enhance professional growth, and secure their overall well-being. GNAT’s proactive measures reaffirm its dedication to empowering teachers and fostering an environment where educators can succeed and feel supported in every aspect of their lives.
