Public Holiday Raises Questions as Basic Schools Prepare to Reopen for Second Term.

Following the declaration of Thursday, 9 January, as a public holiday, the reopening of basic schools has stirred debate among teachers, parents, and students.

As the festive comes to an end, opinions remain divided over whether schools should reopen as planned or be postponed.

According to the approved Academic Calendar, basic schools are scheduled to resume Second Term on Wednesday, 8 January. This date remains the official and valid position.

Although the public holiday falls immediately after the reopening day, the Ghana Education Service has not issued any official circular to change or defer the resumption date. In the absence of a formal directive, schools are expected to reopen as planned.

Current Facts to Note

•Second Term begins: Wednesday, 8 January

•Declared public holiday: Thursday, 9 January

•Official change to reopening: None

What This Means for the School Community

Teachers are expected to report and prepare for academic work as scheduled. Parents should make arrangements for their children based on the approved calendar, while students should be ready to resume lessons. Relying on unofficial information may create avoidable confusion.
