NTC and GES Announce ‘Phase 2' of National CPD Day for Teachers.
The National Teaching Council (NTC), in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES), has officially announced Phase Two of the National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for teachers, with a focused theme on Data Protection Training.
This initiative highlights the growing importance of responsible data management within the education sector, particularly as schools increasingly rely on digital tools for teaching, assessment, communication, and record keeping.
Teachers routinely handle sensitive information such as learners’ personal details, academic records, staff data, and examination materials, making data protection a critical professional responsibility.
The Phase Two CPD Day is scheduled to take place on 15 January 2026 and will be conducted virtually through Katon Meet, the approved online platform, to ensure nationwide participation without the challenges associated with physical gatherings.
To facilitate effective coordination and monitoring, 261 District Host Accounts have been established across the country. The training forms part of the mandatory professional development requirements linked to teacher licensing and renewal, and it seeks to address practical challenges teachers face in managing information in a digital environment, including issues related to data breaches, unauthorized access, improper sharing of information, and poor record management.
Participants are expected to gain a clear understanding of data protection principles, ethical standards, and best practices for safeguarding both electronic and physical records in schools, as well as their legal and professional obligations under existing data protection laws.
The virtual approach also reflects the commitment of NTC and GES to efficient and inclusive professional development, ensuring equal access for teachers in both urban and remote areas while minimizing disruptions to teaching and learning.
Overall, Phase Two of the National CPD Day represents a strategic effort to strengthen professionalism, promote accountability, and prepare teachers to operate confidently and responsibly within an increasingly digital education system.
