GES Confirms 2025/2026 SHS Calendar, Introduces Off-Campus Learning for Transitional Schools
Education authorities have reaffirmed that the approved 2025/2026 academic calendar for Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools remains unchanged.
At the same time, clear learning arrangements have been outlined for transitional schools, introducing a blend of in-school instruction and structured off-campus learning to ensure steady academic progress throughout the year.
Official Confirmation of the Academic
Calendar
In a formal statement released on January 2, 2026, management explained that the calendar issued at the start of the academic year is still valid and must be followed as approved. Heads of schools, teachers, students, parents, and all other stakeholders have been directed to comply fully with the timelines and activities captured in the calendar.
Schedule for Single Track Schools
Schools operating under the single track system will have Forms 1 and 2 students in school from January 5 to February 27, 2026. After this period, students will break and later return from May 4, with the academic year ending on August 21, 2026.
Form three Schedule
For Form three students, academic work will begin on January 5 and continue until February 27, followed by a short break. Students will resume classes on March 14 and conclude the academic year on June 21, 2026.
Academic Plan for Transitional Schools
Specific timelines have been designed for transitional schools to manage enrolment and infrastructure demands effectively.
Form 3: Students will attend school from January 5 to March 31, observe an Easter break, and resume from April 9 to June 21, 2026.
Form One Schedule
Teaching and learning will begin with an online or off-campus learning period from January 5 to January 30.
Form Two Schedule
Students will be in school from January 5 to March 15. This will be followed by an online or off-campus learning period from March 16 to April 17, after which they will go on vacation. Classes will resume on May 18, and the academic year will conclude on September 4, 2026.
After a vacation, students will report to school from March 16 to May 17, move back to off-campus learning from May 18 to June 12, and finally resume in school from July 3 to September 4, 2026.
Support Systems for Off-Campus Learning
To promote effective learning during periods outside the classroom, structured projects and assignments have been prepared using approved textbooks and curriculum materials.
These resources are freely available on the national curriculum portal.
In addition, daily televised lessons will be aired on the Ministry of Education Television channel through Multi TV to support students without consistent access to online platforms. Schools with Learning Management Systems have also been encouraged to activate and use them fully to support learners during off-campus periods.
Off-Campus Learning Is Compulsory
Management has made it clear that online and off-campus learning periods are not holidays. They form a mandatory part of the academic programme, and students are expected to participate actively using at least one of the approved learning options. Parents and guardians have been advised to monitor and support students to ensure full engagement.
Sustaining Teaching and Learning
These measures are intended to maintain continuity in instruction while ensuring that all students have access to learning opportunities throughout the 2025/2026 academic year. With cooperation from schools and families, the academic calendar is expected to run smoothly as planned.
