NAGRAT Issues Stern Ultimatum to Authorities, Threatens Nationwide Teacher Strike Over Violent Assault on Kade SHTS Teacher.

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has issued a resolute ultimatum, threatening to mobilize its members for a nationwide sit-down strike if decisive action is not taken to address the recent assault on a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School in Ghana

The ultimatum was delivered by the Eastern Regional Chairman of NAGRAT, Awoonor-Yevu Godwin, who expressed profound outrage and indignation over the "barbaric and shameful act" captured in a viral video showing students brutally attacking the teacher on his way home.

During a press conference held at the Regional Secretariat, Godwin emphasized the gravity and urgency of the situation, stating that teachers across the nation may be left with no choice but to withdraw their services if the authorities fail to take swift and decisive action to arrest, prosecute, and compensate those responsible for the assault within a period of 14 working days. He underscored the imperative of prompt intervention by the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Education Service to ensure that justice is served and fair compensation is paid to the victim for the physical and psychological harm suffered.

NAGRAT's demands are clear and categorical, encompassing the swift arrest and prosecution of all students involved in the Kade assault, as well as the implementation of enhanced safety protocols and measures in schools to safeguard the welfare and security of teachers. Additionally, the association is calling for the provision of a risk allowance for teachers, recognizing the inherent dangers and vulnerabilities associated with the teaching profession.

The association's Eastern Regional Chairman, Godwin, highlighted the far-reaching consequences of such a strike, warning that it could disrupt the 2026 academic calendar and underscore the growing frustration and despondency among teachers as incidents of violence against educators continue to escalate unabated in various parts of the country. Both the Ghana Education Service (GES) and NAGRAT's National Secretariat have launched independent investigations into the Kade incident.

In conclusion, NAGRAT's ultimatum serves as a clarion call to action for authorities to address the alarming trend of violence against teachers in Ghana and to prioritize the well-being, security, and dignity of those at the forefront of the education system. The association insists that concrete judicial and compensatory actions must follow to address the underlying issues and prevent future occurrences of violence against teachers, emphasizing that teachers should not have to work under constant threats, violence, and fear.
