GTEC Red Flags Unaccredited UG Learning Centres and Suspends Admissions at Several Institutions.
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding six University of Ghana (UG) learning centres that are operating without accreditation.
In a public notice, GTEC announced that these centres have not been accredited by the Commission, and as a result, qualifications issued by these centres will not be recognised by GTEC for purposes of employment, further education, and promotion.
The unaccredited University of Ghana learning centres are:
- Koforidua Learning Centre - Koforidua
- Cape Coast Learning Centre - Cape Coast
- Tamale Learning Centre - Tamale
- Ho/Tsito Learning Centre - Ho/Tsito
- Wa Learning Centre - Wa
- Sunyani Learning Centre_ - Sunyani
The Commission has emphasised the importance of verifying the accreditation status of institutions before seeking admission, citing the potential risks associated with enrolling in unaccredited institutions or learning centres. These risks include the loss of time, financial resources, and future career opportunities.
GTEC has directed eleven tertiary institutions to suspend fresh admissions until they meet accreditation standards, including:
- Institute of Business Management and Journalism in Kumasi
- Rural Development College in Kwaso
- University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies in Bunso
- School of Anaesthesia in Kumasi
- Unique Citizens College in Accra
- Kings and Queens Medical College in Akosombo
- Springs College in Accra
- Wintech Professional Institute
- Trans Africa College
- Royal Nursing College
- OAA Consulting Limited
Additionally, GTEC has alerted the public that 26 institutions have expired institutional accreditation.

- Abbeam Institute of Technology - Kasoa
- Lakeside University College - Accra
- ILMA Institute of Science and Technology - Accra
- Institute of Business Management and Journalism - Kumasi
- Rural Development College - Kwaso
- University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies - Bunso
- School of Anaesthesia - Kumasi
- Unique Citizens College - Accra
- Kings and Queens Medical College - Akosombo
- Springs College - Accra
GTEC urges prospective students, parents, guardians, and the public to verify accreditation status directly with the Commission before seeking admission, to avoid potential consequences of investing in unaccredited institutions and promote quality education in Ghana.
The public is advised to exercise caution and diligence when selecting institutions for tertiary education, and to rely on official communications from GTEC for accurate information on accredited institutions and programmes.
