New Briefing on Upcoming PDA and Digital Allowance Payments for Teachers.
New Briefing on Upcoming PDA and Digital Allowance Payments for Teachers. The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has confirmed that teachers will receive their Professional Development Allowance (PDA) and Digital Allowance in November 2025.
Mr. Isaac Nii Baah, a GNAT executive, disclosed this update during an interview on Angel FM’s “GNAT Hour” in Kumasi, emphasizing that these payments are part of broader efforts to enhance teachers’ professional capacity and digital readiness.
The PDA, valued at GHC 2,400, is intended to support teachers’ ongoing professional development, facilitate the acquisition of instructional materials, and promote the implementation of innovative teaching strategies in classrooms. The allowance reflects a commitment to strengthening the quality of education through sustained investment in educators’ professional growth.
In parallel, the Digital Allowance, set at GHC 800, is designed to enable teachers to access essential digital tools, acquire internet services, and integrate technology effectively into lesson delivery. This allowance, however, is subject to taxation, with deductions estimated between GHC 140 and GHC 200, depending on individual rank. Despite these deductions, the initiative has been widely welcomed as a strategic measure to enhance teaching efficiency and digital competence among educators.
GNAT reiterated its ongoing advocacy for teachers’ welfare, including the prompt disbursement of allowances, improved working conditions, and mechanisms to ensure accountability and transparency in payments. The association further encouraged teachers to utilize these allowances judiciously to augment classroom performance and professional growth.
This announcement underscores the government’s recognition of teachers’ pivotal role in national development and the importance of equipping educators with both financial support and digital capacity to deliver quality education.
