Government Confirms Recruitment of 6,100 Teachers from the 2023 Cohort- Education Minister

The Education Ministry has given a significant update that brings relief to many graduates waiting for employment

Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, has announced that government has officially approved the recruitment of 6,100 teachers from the 2023 cohort. This announcement follows peaceful demonstrations by unposted teachers who marched through parts of Accra on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, demanding immediate postings.

During his engagement with the press, the Minister reiterated government’s commitment to resolving the concerns of unposted teachers. He explained that the approval from Cabinet marks a major step toward clearing the long-standing backlog that has left many newly trained teachers at home.

Haruna Iddrisu stated that the education sector remains the largest employer in the country, and as such, the Ministry is working systematically to ensure that all eligible teachers are placed appropriately. He acknowledged the frustrations of those still waiting and assured them that efforts are already underway to finalize their deployment.

The Minister also responded to the protest, noting that some of the teachers demonstrating might not be fully informed about the verification processes currently taking place. He urged all affected teachers to return to their regional and district education offices to complete the necessary audit, identification, and confirmation procedures to facilitate their posting.

According to him, the recruitment of the 6,100 teachers will not only absorb the entire 2023 graduate cohort but will also reduce the pressure created by the large number of unposted teachers over the past two years. He emphasized that the Ministry is committed to ensuring fairness, transparency, and efficiency throughout the placement process.

Haruna Iddrisu further highlighted that the Ministry is working closely with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that all qualified teachers are absorbed into classrooms where their expertise is needed most. He noted that the verification process is crucial, as it will help confirm the identities and eligibility of individuals seeking placement.

While some teachers continue to express disappointment over the delays, the Minister reassured the public that the Ministry is putting in place measures to prevent similar backlogs in the future. He encouraged the protesting teachers to engage the Ministry through formal channels instead of resorting to prolonged demonstrations.

The announcement has sparked conversations among teacher unions, training colleges, and education stakeholders, many of whom see it as a positive step toward addressing unemployment among newly trained teachers. The development is also expected to boost staffing levels in basic schools across the country, where teacher shortages have affected teaching and learning in some districts.

As the verification and posting processes continue, the Ministry has urged all members of the 2023 cohort to remain patient and follow official directives to ensure a smooth transition into the classroom.
