CAGD Issues Stern Warning Over Rising Scam Calls Targeting Government Workers.
Government workers are being strongly cautioned following a significant rise in fraudulent calls targeting staff on the national payroll system.
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has confirmed a growing pattern of impersonation cases, with scammers posing as officials and attempting to extort money from unsuspecting workers.
The surge in these incidents has largely affected individuals captured on the Integrated Personnel Payroll Database (IPPD). According to the Department, these fraudsters claim to offer payroll support, such as salary corrections, validation assistance, or account updates, and then demand payment before providing the supposed service.
CAGD has firmly reiterated that all payroll-related services are free of charge, and at no point should any government employee make payments to individuals claiming to work with the Department. Any such call, message, or request is fraudulent and must be dismissed immediately.
Strong Advisory to All Government Workers
The Department is urging employees nationwide to remain alert and guard their personal information carefully. Staff are advised to:
•Avoid sharing PINs, bank details, or personal data with unknown callers.
•Verify any unfamiliar number claiming to represent CAGD.
•Use only official channels to confirm payroll issues.
•Report all suspicious calls without delay so that appropriate action can be taken.
•To ensure proper verification and timely support, the CAGD has provided its official contact numbers for workers who receive questionable calls or need clarification.
