GNAT Condemns murder of Garu District Treasurer Bukari Yahaya.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has vehemently condemned the heinous killing of Mr. Bukari Yahaya, the revered Headteacher of D/A Primary School in Garu and District GNAT Treasurer for Garu Tempane in the Upper East Region

Mr. Yahaya lost his life in a brutal attack by unidentified assailants while bravely attempting to shield his pupils from harm near the Garu District Health Insurance office. The Association lauded his selfless actions as a testament to his unwavering dedication to his students, community, and nation.

In a strongly worded press release, signed by General Secretary Mr. Thomas T. Musah, GNAT expressed profound sorrow and indignation over the egregious killing, urging Ghana's security agencies to expeditiously apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face the full force of justice.

"We unequivocally condemn this atrocious act and call upon the security apparatus and all well-intentioned citizens to collaborate in bringing the culprits to justice without delay," the statement emphasized. GNAT underscored the imperative of swift action to apprehend the perpetrators and mete out justice.

Furthermore, GNAT implored Regional and District Security Councils to bolster security measures to safeguard the well-being of teachers, school staff, and other government workers, particularly in areas plagued by insecurity.

The Association also urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to provide vital psychological and counseling support to affected teachers and pupils, acknowledging the profound emotional trauma inflicted by this tragedy. Such support is essential in facilitating the recovery and well-being of those affected.

In light of the growing insecurity in parts of the Upper East Region, GNAT urged the government to take decisive action to restore peace and order, stressing that such senseless violence must never recur.

The Association extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, hailing Mr. Yahaya as a devoted educator who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and wished him eternal peace. GNAT's condolences also extended to the entire educational community, deeply affected by this reprehensible act of violence.
