Give Teachers Their Reward While on Earth, the One in Heaven Will Be Decided Later – GNAT.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Patrick Boison, has urged the government to honour the promises it made to teachers during the 2024 campaign period.

He expressed concern that teachers are often told their reward awaits them in heaven, a statement he described as unfair and discouraging. According to him, if there is any reward for teachers, it should be given to them while they are alive and actively serving the nation.

Mr. Boison called on the government to pay the salaries of teachers who were recruited in 2024 and have been working for more than thirteen months without remuneration. He described the situation as disheartening, adding that teachers cannot effectively perform their duties when struggling to make ends meet.

He appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to fast-track the payment of the affected teachers and deliver on his campaign promise to improve teachers’ welfare. He also reminded the President of his pledge to provide additional allowances to teachers serving in rural and deprived communities as a form of motivation.

Highlighting the difficult conditions under which many teachers work, Mr. Boison noted that some of these communities lack essential amenities such as electricity, potable water, good roads, and adequate school infrastructure. Despite these challenges, teachers continue to show commitment and dedication to nurturing the next generation.

He emphasized that any appreciation or reward meant for teachers should be given while they are alive, as a genuine acknowledgment of their hard work and contributions to the country’s development.
