GES Urges Parents to Accept Placements and Prepare Wards for SHS Reopening

GES Urges Parents to Accept Placements and Prepare Wards for SHS Reopening
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has advised parents to accept the school placements assigned to their wards and prepare them for the reopening of schools between October 18 and 20, 2025

Munawaru Issahaque, Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access at the GES, urged parents to be realistic about the limited availability of schools and focus on preparing their children instead of waiting endlessly for a change in placement.

According to Dr. Issahaque, a majority of students have already been placed in schools, but some parents are dissatisfied with the outcome. He cautioned parents against paying money to individuals who promise to change their children's school placements, describing such actions as fraudulent. "If anyone has one person that you know has taken money from you, I am here, you can let me know that person. I am available and we'll talk to the person," he stated.

The GES official emphasized that parents should prepare their children for school and ensure they join their colleagues on the designated reopening dates. He also warned parents to be wary of individuals who claim to have influence over school placements and advised them to report such cases to the authorities.

The advice comes as the GES is working to ensure a smooth start to the academic year. With between 95 to 99% of students already placed, Dr. Issahaque encouraged parents to cooperate with the school authorities to achieve this goal. He also urged parents to focus on preparing their wards for school, rather than waiting for a change in placement that may not come.

By accepting the assigned placements and preparing their children for school, parents can help ensure that the academic year gets off to a good start. The GES is committed to providing quality education, and cooperation from parents is essential in achieving this objective.

In light of this, parents are advised to visit the school where their child has been placed to familiarize themselves with the school's rules, regulations, and requirements. This will enable them to better support their child's academic progress and ensure a successful academic year.

Ultimately, the GES's advice to parents is clear: accept the placement, prepare your child, and let them start their academic journey without further delay. By working together, parents and the GES can ensure that Ghana's students receive the best possible education.
