GES Issues Fresh Directives on PTA Management in Senior High Schools.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has introduced a new set of standardized guidelines to govern the operations of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across all Senior High Schools.
The directive, issued in a circular dated 29th September 2025 and signed by Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of Schools and Instructions Division on behalf of the Acting Director-General, is aimed at strengthening accountability, improving collaboration, and ensuring PTAs effectively support school development.
The Service explained that the guidelines were designed to align PTA activities with national education policies and to create a uniform structure for their operations nationwide. PTAs, as key partners in education, are expected to play a more structured role in promoting effective teaching and learning while building stronger partnerships between schools and parents.
The circular outlines four core objectives:
- Streamline PTA functions to align with national education priorities.
- Promote transparency and accountability in the use of PTA funds.
- Strengthen collaboration between parents, teachers, and school management.
- Ensure uniformity in PTA structures and operations across all Senior High Schools.
For effective implementation, GES has directed all Regional Directors of Education to notify Metro, Municipal, and District Directors, who must in turn ensure that every Senior High School complies. Schools are also required to submit quarterly reports on PTA activities using a standardized reporting format. The circular emphasized that strict adherence is mandatory and must be treated with urgency.
The directive further instructed that copies of the guidelines be sent to the GES Council Chairman and other senior officials at the headquarters in Accra to enhance monitoring and oversight. By enforcing these measures, GES aims to create consistency in PTA management, foster stronger school-community relationships, and improve accountability in resource use, all of which are essential for raising the quality of education in Senior High Schools.
The Service has called for the cooperation of all stakeholders, stressing that the new guidelines should not only be seen as an administrative requirement but also as a strategic move to strengthen the partnership between parents and schools for the benefit of learners.
