WASSCE: Housemistress assaulted for preventing student from cheating.
Authorities have moved quickly to restore order at Wesley Senior High School in Konongo, Ashanti Region, following a disturbance involving some students.
Reports indicate that a group of students allegedly attacked the residence of the senior housemistress by pelting stones at the building.
The incident is said to have stemmed from a confrontation during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE). According to school authorities, the senior housemistress had confronted a candidate who was suspected of attempting to cheat during the Christian Religious Studies (CRS) paper on Friday, September 5.
Headmistress Rev. Agnes Gaisie revealed that after the incident, the student involved verbally assaulted the housemistress. The matter was addressed immediately, with the student made to apologise and later taken through counselling. However, on the night of Sunday, September 7, the unrest escalated when some students allegedly threw stones at the housemistress’s residence.
Rev. Gaisie noted that investigations are currently underway to identify the perpetrators behind the attack. She further reassured the public that the situation is under control, thanks to police intervention. She emphasized that examinations at the school are continuing without disruption.
The police presence on campus has since brought calm, allowing both staff and students to focus on the smooth running of the WASSCE.
