TEWU announces strike over delayed conditions of service agreements.

The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) under the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has announced an indefinite strike starting September 19, 2025, due to prolonged delays in finalizing and signing Conditions of Service agreements.

This industrial action will impact members across Technical Universities, Public Universities, the Ghana Library Authority, and the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB).

According to General Secretary King James Azortibah, the prolonged inaction has severely impacted members' welfare and morale, with the union stating, “We have outlived our patience and can no longer contain the growing pressure from our rank and file”.

The union finds repeated delays in negotiations unacceptable and sees the strike as a means to compel authorities to act. Notices have been served to key stakeholders including the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the National Labour Commission.

The strike reflects TEWU’s push for urgent resolution prioritizing education sector workers’ welfare, potentially disrupting academic and administrative functions in affected institutions. With the action looming, stakeholders await outcomes of the union’s efforts to address the standoff.
