NIA Launches Ghana Card Registration for Children Aged 6–14. at Premium Centres
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has begun registering Ghanaian children aged 6 to 14 years at all premium centres nationwide.In a statement signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate, the Authority explained that the initiative forms part of its legal mandate to capture all citizens into the National Identity Register (NIR). By including children, the NIA is taking another step toward building a secure, reliable, and inclusive national database.
Fees and Requirements
The cost for first-time registration at premium centres is GHS310, which is the approved fee for premium services. To complete the process, parents or guardians must present one of the following:
•A valid Ghanaian passport of the child, OR
•The original copy of the child’s birth certificate, OR
•A Ghana Card holder (parent or guardian) who can vouch for the child.
Expansion of Online Booking System
Effective 15 September 2025, the NIA’s online registration and booking platform will be rolled out to all 11 remaining premium centres nationwide. This will enable parents and guardians to conveniently schedule appointments and reduce delays at the centres.
Card Issuance and Wider Access
The Authority has assured the public that timelines for issuing Ghana Cards to children who have already registered will be communicated soon. Additionally, in the coming weeks, registration services will be extended to all NIA district offices, making it easier for families across the country to access the service.
