Ministry of Education Investigates Allegations of BECE Placement Bribery

The Ministry of Education has officially responded to reports circulating on social media suggesting that admission into Aburi Girls’ Senior High School costs GHC1,500.

The claim, which was attributed to one Gertrude Adzo Borklo, has raised concerns as it gives the false impression that the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) Computerized School Placement System (CSSPS) is for sale.

According to the Ministry, this allegation is being taken very seriously. An immediate investigation has begun, but initial attempts to contact the individual behind the original post have been unsuccessful since her account was deactivated shortly after the publication.

The Ministry also noted that some anonymous and “ghost” accounts are amplifying similar falsehoods, which further mislead the public. To address this, the Ministry is working closely with National Security, the Cyber Security Authority, and other relevant agencies to trace and investigate those spreading such misinformation.

The Ministry of Education has reaffirmed that the BECE Computerized School Placement System is completely free of charge. At no point is payment required to secure placement.

Members of the public are therefore urged to share any information or evidence about individuals, including Ministry officials or third parties, who attempt to demand money in exchange for placement. The Ministry has assured swift and decisive action against anyone found culpable.

To facilitate this, dedicated hotlines have been made available for reporting:

•054 154 8223 (Calls)

•024 490 8957 (WhatsApp)

In conclusion, the Ministry has emphasized the importance of safeguarding the integrity and transparency of Ghana’s school placement system. It called on the public to work together in identifying and exposing unscrupulous individuals who attempt to exploit this national exercise for personal gain.
