The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially invited a number of candidates from the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to assist in an ongoing investigation into suspected mass collusion. 

The list, which includes both school and private candidates, was released on August 8, 2025, and contains the names and index numbers of those required to appear before the Council.

According to WAEC, the candidates are to report to specific regional offices on assigned dates with any relevant documentation that could help clarify their involvement. The move, the Council explains, is part of a standard investigative process aimed at upholding the credibility of the nation’s examinations.

While the invitation gives the candidates an opportunity to present their side of the story, WAEC has made it clear that failing to appear will not delay or obstruct the investigation. The Council reserves the right to conclude the process in the absence of the candidate, which could result in actions such as withholding or cancelling results.

WAEC maintains that this procedure reflects its commitment to fairness and transparency, ensuring that each case is handled according to due process. By publicly releasing the list and the instructions, the Council allows schools, parents, and the wider public to follow developments and understand the actions being taken to protect examination integrity.

Candidates and guardians are therefore urged to check WAEC’s official website for their assigned reporting venues and dates.
