GES Releases 2025/2026 Academic Calendar for Senior High Schools.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has outlined the full academic timetable for Senior High Schools (SHS) for the 2025/2026 academic year.

According to the schedule, first-year students will officially report to their various schools on Saturday, October 18, 2025. This directive, which applies to both Single Track and Transitional Schools, is aimed at ensuring that all institutions reopen in a coordinated manner for the smooth start of the new academic year.

The announcement was contained in a circular signed by Mr. Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instructions Division, and distributed to regional directors of education across the country.

Regional offices have been tasked to share the approved calendar with all heads of second-cycle institutions and to ensure strict adherence.

GES further explained that the uniform timetable is expected to bring order, avoid inconsistencies in school operations, and create a level ground for effective teaching and learning.

In addition to issuing the calendar, the Service charged regional directors to closely supervise heads of schools and provide the necessary support during implementation. This, according to GES, will help guarantee that the academic plan is not only followed but also effectively managed throughout the year.

Key Dates in the 2025/2026 Academic Year.

  • SHS 1 Reporting Week: October 18–20, 2025
  • SHS 3 Reopening Week: October 27–29, 2025
  • Christmas Break: December 20, 2025 – January 4, 2026

The calendar also revealed that the 2026/2027 academic year will commence on September 11, 2026.
