GES Opens 2025 Promotion Window for Teachers.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the opening of its 2025 promotion window for teaching staff. This exercise provides an opportunity for qualified teachers and officers to progress in their careers by applying for higher ranks within the service.

Promotion Ranks Available

Teachers and officers are invited to apply for promotion into the following categories:

  • Deputy Director
  • Assistant Director I
  • Assistant Director II
  • Principal Superintendent

Eligibility Criteria

Deputy Director

Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director I on or before 2020 and must have served continuously at post since then, excluding approved periods of leave.

Assistant Director I

Applicants must have been promoted to Assistant Director II on or before 2020 and should have been at post continuously.

Assistant Director II

Applicants must have been promoted to Principal Superintendent on or before 2020 and must have served continuously at post.

Principal Superintendent

Applicants must have been promoted to Senior Superintendent I on or before 2020 and must have been continuously at post. Teachers who hold an approved undergraduate degree will also be automatically placed on this rank.

Use of Master’s/PhD Degrees

GES has outlined additional guidelines for applicants relying on higher academic qualifications:

  • The programme must be an approved GES course of study.
  • The certificate must not have been obtained before the last promotion.
  • For ADI, ADII, or Deputy Director applications, the Master’s/PhD certificate must have been obtained in or before 2022.

Application Process

Applications are to be completed online through the official portal: gespromotions2025 or via the QR code in the official release.

Required Documents

Applicants should prepare the following documents for upload:

  • A recent passport-size photograph (jpeg, jpg, or png format)
  • Last promotion, appointment, or upgrading letter
  • Highest academic certificate being used for the application

NB: All documents, except the passport photo, must be uploaded in PDF format and should be clearly scanned.

Application Timeline

  • Opening Date: Monday, 18th August 2025
  • Closing Date: Friday, 5th September 2025

Teachers are advised to complete the process early to avoid last-minute issues with the online portal.

 The 2025 promotion exercise presents a significant opportunity for teachers aspiring to move up the professional ladder. Eligible applicants are encouraged to prepare their documents and apply within the stipulated period.

2025 Salary Adjustment Announced for Public Service Institutions on the Single Spine Structure The Government of Ghana has approved a 10% across-the-board salary increase for all public sector institutions under the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).  This follows the successful conclusion of negotiations on the 2025 base pay, as confirmed in a recent communication from the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
