National Teaching Council Affirms July GTLE Exam Is On Track Despite Cancellation Rumours
National Teaching Council Clarifies Status of July Ghana Teacher Licensure Exams Following Cancellation Speculations.
The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially addressed public speculation surrounding the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) scheduled for this month.According to a statement released on July 16, the Council affirmed that the examination will proceed as scheduled and is not subject to cancellation or postponement.
This clarification follows widespread confusion prompted by a recent video statement from the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu. While the Minister outlined plans for reforms in the teacher licensing process, the NTC has made it clear that those changes do not apply to the current examination.
All candidates registered for the July 2025 GTLE are therefore advised to adhere to their timetables and complete the exam under the existing format. The Council further noted that the new structure of the GTLE will begin with candidates who are yet to complete their academic programmes.
As part of a broader education reform agenda, the Ministry of Education has announced that August 30, 2025, will serve as the final date for writing the current version of the licensure exam. After that, a revised framework will be introduced to align teacher certification with practical classroom readiness.
The new model will replace the traditional paper-based approach with more comprehensive methods, including supervised teaching practicums and formal mentorship. These components are expected to ensure that teachers entering the profession possess both academic knowledge and real-world teaching competence.
In the meantime, preparation for the July GTLE is underway across the country. Candidates who have already registered are expected to write the exam as planned, and any information suggesting cancellation should be disregarded unless confirmed by the NTC.
The Council’s firm position brings clarity at a time of transition and reflects a broader effort to raise the standards of teacher training and licensing.
