GES Opens Applications for 2025 Study Leave With Pay: Full Details and Approved Subject Areas.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially opened the application window for Study Leave With Pay for the 2025 academic year. 

This initiative is designed to support the professional growth of eligible staff who wish to further their education in approved subject areas while maintaining their salaries.

In accordance with GES policy, only staff who meet specific criteria will be considered for the award. Below are the conditions and procedures outlined for the 2025 intake.

Eligibility Criteria for Study Leave With Pay.

To qualify for the 2025 Study Leave With Pay, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • A minimum of three years of continuous and satisfactory service is required before applying. Beneficiaries will be bonded for the duration of their studies plus one additional year.

  • Staff who have served in designated deprived areas for at least two years may be considered.

  • Non-professional graduate teachers must complete at least one year of service before being eligible for the Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

  • Staff returning from secondment are required to serve a minimum of two years before qualifying.

  • Personnel who vacated the service and were subsequently reappointed or re-engaged must serve a minimum of five years before becoming eligible.

  • Staff who are denied Study Leave With Pay in the first year of their academic program are not permitted to reapply in the second year. Instead, they must continue their studies under Study Leave Without Pay.

  • Applicants must have at least two years of service remaining after the completion of their course. For instance, employees who are 55 years or older are not permitted to undertake programs exceeding two years in duration.

  • Eligibility is also contingent upon good conduct, satisfactory performance, and a written recommendation from the applicant’s immediate supervisor.

Application Process

All interested applicants must:

  • Collect application forms from their respective Metro, Municipal, or District Education Offices.

  • Complete four copies of the application form and attach certified true copies of all relevant certificates.

  • Submit the completed forms through their Metro/Municipal/District Director or Head of Institution to the Regional Director.

  • Ensure that the final list of qualified applicants is compiled and forwarded by the Regional/District Directors to the GES Headquarters (HRMD) no later than Friday, 31st October 2025.
