GES Directs Immediate Reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations in Pre-Tertiary Schools.
GES Orders Immediate Restoration of Parent-Teacher Associations in Pre-Tertiary Schools.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), with the approval of President John Dramani Mahama, has directed the immediate reactivation of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all public pre-tertiary institutions. This nationwide directive is a strategic step aimed at restoring structured community involvement in the governance and development of basic and secondary education.
In a formal statement issued by the Public Relations Unit, GES instructed heads of Senior High Schools, Technical and Vocational Institutes, and STEM centres to facilitate the full operationalisation of PTAs without delay. The directive, effective immediately, is part of ongoing reforms designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, and inclusive participation in school management.
The reintroduction of PTAs marks a return to a critical governance mechanism that enables parents and teachers to collaborate in shaping the academic and moral foundation of learners. GES believes the active involvement of parents contributes not only to improved learning outcomes but also to the effective management of school resources and student welfare.
In anticipation of nationwide implementation, the Service has indicated that a comprehensive framework outlining the structure, functions, and financial governance of PTAs will be circulated in due course. These guidelines will provide clarity on roles, decision-making processes, and the oversight of PTA funds to prevent administrative lapses and misuse.
GES concluded by calling on all stakeholders, particularly school heads, teachers, parents, and district directors of education, to offer their full cooperation. Their collective effort, the Service noted, will be instrumental in building an educational environment that is responsive, inclusive, and accountable.
