Free SHS Policy Extended to 60 Private Senior High Schools Nationwide: Regional Breakdown Released.

In a significant move aimed at broadening access to secondary education, the Government has officially extended the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy to include 60 private senior high schools across the country.

This latest development, which represents a milestone in the implementation of the Free SHS programme since its inception under the Akufo-Addo administration, is expected to reduce overcrowding in public senior high schools and enhance equitable access to quality education for all students, regardless of the type of institution they attend.

The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major step forward in ensuring inclusive educational reforms that acknowledge the role of private institutions in national development. GNACOPS noted that this policy inclusion will help optimize infrastructure and teaching resources in private schools, which have often operated below capacity despite meeting national standards.

Parents and guardians are advised to consult the official list of approved private schools under the Free SHS scheme, which is available through the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES), or GNACOPS platforms.
