Education Minister Orders Strict Enforcement of Mobile Phone Ban and School Safety Measures.
The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed deep concern over the increasing trend of students carrying weapons to school, describing it as a serious threat to the safety of learners, teachers, and the overall school environment.
He made these remarks during the official inauguration ceremony of newly appointed board members for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the National School Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), held in Accra.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister underscored the importance of discipline, adherence to school rules, and collective responsibility in ensuring safe learning spaces. He called for closer collaboration among education stakeholders to address the growing concerns around violence in schools.
Hon. Iddrisu urged the newly inaugurated boards to go beyond academic performance and prioritize the emotional and social development of students. According to him, ensuring learners are well-rounded and emotionally stable is essential to the success of the education system. The Minister also advocated for the early integration of artificial intelligence and coding into the basic school curriculum. He noted that these skills are critical in equipping young learners to thrive in an increasingly digital and technology-driven world.
In response, the newly sworn-in chairpersons—Prof. Vincent Assanful (NaCCA) and Dr. Maabobor Kor Jacob Aaworb-Nang (NaSIA)—pledged their commitment to upholding quality standards in pre-tertiary education.
