University of Ghana Sanctions Over 100 Students for Misconduct and Exam Malpractices

University of Ghana Suspends 14 Students, Sanctions 97 Others Over Misconduct and Examination Offences.

The University of Ghana has taken disciplinary action against over 100 students after separate investigations uncovered incidents of misconduct and violations of examination regulations.

In a statement released on Monday, university authorities confirmed that 14 students have been suspended for two academic years. The suspensions come after the completion of disciplinary hearings which found the affected students guilty of engaging in acts that contravene the institution’s rules. As a result, the students are barred from participating in all academic and extracurricular activities during the suspension period.

According to the statement, the university's Disciplinary Committee carefully examined each case before making its final decision. The suspended students were found to have engaged in behaviour deemed disruptive, inappropriate, or in direct violation of the student code of conduct. Though specific details of their offences were not disclosed, the university stressed that the actions taken were necessary to restore discipline and ensure order within the academic community.

In a related incident, 97 students were sanctioned after being found guilty of various forms of examination malpractice. These cases were investigated independently and reviewed through formal hearings. The university stated that the breaches involved clear violations of examination protocols, and those responsible have been penalized according to the institution’s academic regulations. The specific nature of the sanctions was not made public, but such disciplinary measures often include suspension, grade cancellation, or permanent academic record notations.

In addition, two more students have received formal reprimands for engaging in behavior that, while not warranting suspension, was still considered inappropriate by university standards. These reprimands serve as official warnings and remain part of the students’ disciplinary records.

The university reiterated its firm stance on discipline, stating that it remains committed to upholding academic integrity and promoting responsible conduct among students. Authorities emphasized that these measures are part of broader efforts to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for all members of the university community.

“This action is a reflection of our unwavering commitment to maintaining the core values that define the University of Ghana,” the statement read. “It is essential that students understand the importance of integrity and accountability, especially within an academic setting.”

The university also urged students to adhere to all institutional regulations and reminded them that any breach of conduct could attract serious consequences. Management noted that disciplinary measures are not taken lightly and are always preceded by thorough investigations and fair hearings.

Students and staff were encouraged to support efforts to preserve discipline and ensure that the university remains a centre for academic excellence, ethical leadership, and responsible citizenship.
