Teachers are the bedrock of Ghana’s education system; they need investment - Mahama.

Prez John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the welfare of teachers, emphasizing their critical role in driving the country’s education system and overall development.

Speaking after a meeting with leaders of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the President highlighted the importance of creating favorable working environments, offering competitive remuneration, and providing opportunities for professional advancement. He noted that these measures are not merely promises but essential steps toward national growth.

In a message shared on his social media platforms, Mahama expressed his appreciation for GNAT’s leadership and acknowledged their tireless efforts in shaping the future of the country. He described their input as invaluable, praising their unwavering commitment to the teaching profession.

“I assured the GNAT leadership of my firm commitment, and that of my administration, to prioritize the well-being of all teachers,” Mahama stated. “Our teachers are the foundation of our education system and vital partners in nation-building. Guaranteeing their welfare and growth is crucial to our nation’s progress.”

He also commended GNAT for its investments and contributions to the sector, expressing gratitude for the association’s role in strengthening Ghana’s educational framework.

Mahama's assurances come at a time when many stakeholders have raised concerns about the need for better support and investment in the teaching profession. He called for continuous collaboration between government and teacher associations to secure sustainable improvements for educators.

The meeting further solidified the government’s intention to work hand in hand with GNAT and other relevant bodies to ensure that teachers’ concerns are addressed, ultimately fostering a stronger education system for the benefit of the entire nation.
