NTC Opens Registration for 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE 1).
The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially opened registration for the 2025 edition of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE 1).This initiative forms part of NTC’s regulatory mandate under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), aimed at ensuring that teachers meet the professional standards required for effective teaching and learning.
Purpose of the Examination
The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination is designed to assess the professional competence of prospective teachers. The exam measures candidates’ knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes, ensuring that those who qualify possess the necessary expertise and ethical foundation to serve in Ghana’s educational system.
Examination Structure
For fresh candidates, the examination consists of three main components:
1. General Professional Knowledge
This paper evaluates literacy, numeracy, and essential professional skills that form the foundation of teaching practice.
2. Grade-Level Pedagogy
This section focuses on teaching methods relevant to specific levels of education, including Early Childhood, Primary, Junior High School (JHS), Senior High School (SHS), and Technical/Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
3. Content Knowledge
For Early Childhood and Primary applicants, this will cover multiple subjects. For candidates at the JHS, SHS, and TVET levels, the focus will be on subject-specific content.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the examination, candidates must hold at least a Bachelor of Education degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Individuals with foreign qualifications are required to obtain certification from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) before registering.
Indexing Requirement for Fresh Applicants
New applicants must first complete an indexing process to be eligible for registration:
•Visit https://indexing.ntc.gov.gh/
to register.
•Pay an indexing fee of GH₵50 through Prudential Bank or mobile money by dialing *77251#.
•After payment, candidates will receive an indexing number via SMS, which is required for verification before registration.
Registration Process and Fees
The registration window will remain open until July 7, 2025. The applicable fees are as follows:
•Fresh Candidates (all three papers)
° GH₵450
•Resit Candidates:
° One paper: GH₵150
° Two papers: GH₵210
° Three papers: GH₵385
Payments can be made at any Prudential Bank branch or through mobile money using *77251#.
Upon payment, candidates will receive a PIN and serial number to complete their registration at https://exams.ntc.gov.gh/
Important Guidelines for Candidates
•Payments made are non-refundable, even if a candidate is later deemed ineligible.
•Once photos are uploaded, they cannot be changed. Ensure that your photo meets the required specifications before uploading.
•Review all personal and academic information carefully before final submission.
•Registration deadlines will be strictly enforced; no late submissions will be accepted.
•Candidates are expected to appear for the examination in formal attire.
Last Opportunity for Certain Candidates
The Council has announced that there will be a final resit opportunity scheduled for October 2025. Candidates who do not pass this final resit will be required to re-enroll in teacher education programs in 2026 in order to qualify for future licensure exams.
Examination Dates
The 2025 GTLE 1 examination is scheduled to take place from July 18 to July 20, 2025.
