The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 2.45% increase in electricity tariffs for all consumer groups, effective July 1, 2025.This adjustment comes after the Commission's routine quarterly review aimed at ensuring the sustainability of utility service provision.
In a statement issued on June 25, PURC clarified that the review forms part of its Quarterly Tariff Review Mechanism, which assesses critical economic indicators such as the exchange rate, inflation, natural gas prices, and the generation mix between hydro and thermal sources.
While electricity prices will see a marginal increase, water tariffs will remain unchanged across all categories for the third quarter of 2025. The Commission explained that maintaining current water rates is intended to ease the financial burden on consumers while preserving service quality.
Breakdown of Key Influencing Factors.
•Exchange Rate: GHS10.3052 per USD
•Projected Inflation: 20.67% annual average
•Natural Gas Price: USD7.7134 per MMBtu
•Generation Mix: 28.8% hydro, 71.2% thermal
•Outstanding Revenue: GHS488 million from previous quarters
Revised Electricity Tariffs
•Lifeline (0–30 kWh): 77.6274 → 79.5308 GHp/kWh
•Residential (301+ kWh): 232.3892 → 238.0873 GHp/kWh
•Non-residential (301+ kWh): 197.3338 → 202.1723 GHp/kWh
•High Voltage Mines: 495.9255 → 508.0854 GHp/kWh
Service charges remain unchanged across all customer classifications.
The PURC assured the public of its continued oversight of service providers to ensure regulatory compliance, financial transparency, and improved service delivery.
“We appreciate the support of all stakeholders and reaffirm our commitment to balancing consumer protection with the sustainability of the utility sector,” the Commission concluded.
