Pastor’s Death Prophecy Prevents Brilliant Student from Taking BECE — MCE, GES Step In
Pastor's Prophecy Stops Brilliant Student from Writing BECE — MCE, GES Intervene.
A promising student in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region was prevented from writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) after her family's pastor delivered a prophecy that led to her being withdrawn.
According to reports from the community, the pastor revealed to the girl’s family that she would lose her life if she took part in the examination. Driven by fear, her father made the heartbreaking decision to keep her at home, denying her the chance to write the papers alongside her colleagues as the nationwide exam commenced.
The student's absence drew attention when education authorities realized she was missing on the first day of the examination. Swiftly informed, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Municipal Director of Education acted promptly. They engaged with the father in an attempt to address his fears and persuade him to reconsider his decision.
After intense discussions, the father eventually agreed to allow his daughter to sit for the remaining papers. Sadly, by the time the intervention was successful, the student had already missed the first subject, leaving her future performance uncertain.
This incident has sparked widespread concern across the region, raising questions about the impact of unverified spiritual predictions on the educational aspirations of young learners. Many community members and education stakeholders have expressed worry over how such beliefs continue to interfere with children’s academic progress.
Calls are now growing for intensified public education and sensitization campaigns to discourage families from making life-altering decisions based solely on prophecies and unsubstantiated spiritual declarations.
At the time of reporting, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other authorities have yet to issue an official statement on whether arrangements will be made for the student to resit the missed paper.
The 2025 BECE officially commenced on Wednesday, June 11, with more than 600,000 candidates writing their papers in examination centres nationwide.
