NSA Boss Confirms Allowance Increment for Next Service Year
National Service Allowances Set for Increment in Upcoming Service Year – NSA Boss Confirms.
The Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, has revealed plans to increase allowances for the next group of national service personnel.
This decision follows ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Finance to secure a budgetary adjustment for the upcoming service year.
Gyamfi expressed optimism that the new cohort will benefit from the revised allowance structure during a Pre-Service Orientation in Kumasi, stating, "There is an opportunity to include it in the budget very soon. I am quite certain that the new cohort will receive the updated allowances."
This year's NSA registration saw 132,393 prospective personnel receive PIN codes, representing a 26% drop from the average enrollment over the past three years and a 36% decline compared to the 2022/2023 service year. The reduction is attributed to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission's disqualification of submissions from 22 unaccredited institutions, affecting 3,597 applicants.
According to the NSA, strict validation protocols and enhanced transparency have helped prevent the processing of falsified or inflated submissions. Gyamfi noted that the reduced intake would ease financial pressures on the state and allow for improved welfare for service personnel, explaining, "If you multiply GHS750 by the difference in numbers, the amount of money saved becomes clear."
In a bid to promote entrepreneurship and practical training, the NSA is encouraging Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) to accept national service personnel. Gyamfi highlighted the economic potential of sectors such as auto parts trading hubs like Abossey Okai, Suame Magazine, and Kokompe, remarking, "Many of these businesses have more capital than some tech firms, yet they’ve been overlooked."
The Authority also plans to post 10,000 personnel for military training during the upcoming service year, focusing on discipline, alertness, and emergency response skills. Gyamfi urged young graduates to seize emerging opportunities and trust in the Authority’s efforts to enhance their professional and personal development during the service period.
