New COVID-19 Cases Reported at University of Ghana; Health Advisory Released

University of Ghana Records New COVID-19 Cases, Issues Urgent Health Advisory.

The University of Ghana has recorded a resurgence of COVID-19 cases on its campus, prompting the institution to issue an urgent health advisory to students, staff, and visitors.

The recent development, confirmed by the university’s Health Services Directorate, has raised concerns about a possible spread of the virus within the academic community. As a result, management is reinforcing safety measures to curb transmission and protect the health of all individuals on campus.

In an official statement dated June 23, 2025, the Health Services Directorate announced that several suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases had emerged in and around the university environment. While the exact number of infections has not been made public, the university has described the situation as one that requires immediate attention and collective responsibility.

The university is therefore urging all members of the campus community to recommit to basic health protocols. These include consistent and proper use of face masks, especially in enclosed settings such as lecture halls, libraries, and offices. The directive also calls for regular handwashing, use of hand sanitizers, and maintaining physical distance wherever possible.

Furthermore, the university has underscored the importance of ensuring good airflow in enclosed spaces. Academic departments and administrative offices have been reminded to keep windows and doors open to promote proper ventilation during meetings, lectures, and other indoor activities.

In an effort to manage and control the situation, the university has reactivated its COVID-19 Response Protocols. These include screening processes and triage systems at designated health facilities. The university has also advised individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms to stay away from campus and seek immediate medical attention.

The Health Services Directorate assured the community that it is closely monitoring developments and will provide regular updates as needed. Students, staff, and visitors who may be experiencing symptoms or who have health-related concerns are encouraged to contact the university’s medical support team through the following helplines:

Management stressed that while the national COVID-19 outlook may seem under control, localised surges such as this serve as a reminder that the virus has not been completely eradicated. The university therefore appeals to the entire community to take personal responsibility in safeguarding themselves and others.

This latest advisory is a call to action for students, faculty, and all visitors to recommit to the safety guidelines that proved effective in earlier phases of the pandemic. By working together and remaining vigilant, the University of Ghana hopes to prevent further spread and maintain a safe learning environment for all.
