GES Opens Promotion Application for Lower Ranks – Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Eligible
GES Opens 2025 Lower Rank Promotion Applications for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially commenced the promotion application process for staff at the lower ranks, creating a new pathway for both teaching and non-teaching personnel to advance in their careers.
This latest directive specifically targets individuals who were appointed or last promoted in the year 2020 or earlier.
The announcement was made through a circular dated June 10, 2025, and signed by Amatus A. Tug-Uu, the District Director of Education for Wa West. In the circular, GES calls on all eligible personnel across its various districts to take advantage of this promotion opportunity as part of the Service’s efforts to ensure equity and career progression among its workforce.
Eligible Ranks for Teaching Staff
For teaching staff, the promotion application is open to those aspiring to be promoted into the following ranks:
•Superintendent I
•Senior Superintendent II
•Senior Superintendent I
To complete the application process, each applicant is required to submit an application letter accompanied by several key supporting documents. These include:
•A copy of their last promotion or appointment letter, verifying their current rank and date of appointment.
•A recommendation letter from the applicant’s headteacher, which serves as an endorsement of the applicant’s suitability for promotion.
•The most recent payslip, which provides confirmation of the applicant’s current employment status.
•A confirmation letter verifying the applicant’s appointment details and current posting.
The submission of these documents ensures that the necessary administrative checks can be carried out efficiently.
Application Process for Non-Teaching Staff
Non-teaching staff are not left out of this promotion exercise. Individuals serving in various administrative, technical, and support roles who were promoted to lower ranks on or before 2020 are equally eligible. They are encouraged to apply by following similar submission guidelines.
GES’s inclusion of both teaching and non-teaching staff in this promotion round demonstrates its commitment to fostering equal opportunities across all sectors of the service.
Submission Guidelines and Deadline
Applicants are reminded to submit their completed application packages to the District Education Office registry. To facilitate proper processing and compilation, each applicant must provide three (3) complete sets of the required documents.
The deadline for submission is firmly set for June 30, 2025. GES has emphasized the importance of meeting this deadline to ensure that applications are processed without unnecessary delays.
GES Reinforces Commitment to Fair Career Progression.
This promotion window forms part of GES’s broader agenda to address concerns raised by staff who have remained on the same rank for extended periods. By opening up this application process, GES aims to ensure that hardworking staff are duly recognized and rewarded with opportunities for professional growth.
The announcement has been widely welcomed by members of the education community, particularly by those who have patiently awaited such an opportunity. Many see this as a long-overdue response to the growing calls for fair and timely career progression within the service.
As GES continues to streamline its administrative processes, the Service remains committed to promoting transparency, fairness, and meritocracy in its promotion exercises, providing deserving staff with the motivation to excel in their duties.
