GES Embarks on Nationwide Inspection of 1,000 GALOP Basic Schools
GES Initiates Comprehensive Inspection of 1,000 GALOP Basic Schools Across Ghana.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced a nationwide inspection of 1,000 basic schools under the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP), scheduled to take place from June 23 to July 18, 2025.
The inspection will cover all 16 regions of Ghana, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of the program's impact across the country. Authorized by Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Acting Deputy Director-General in charge of Quality and Access, this initiative aims to enhance learning outcomes and promote accountability in basic schools.
The National School Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) will conduct the exercise, focusing on the following key areas:
•Inspection Ratings: Evaluating schools' performance against national standards to identify those that meet or exceed expectations, particularly those rated as "good" or "outstanding." This assessment will help determine the effectiveness of teaching and learning practices.
•Teacher Attendance: Assessing teacher presence and commitment to duty. Regular teacher attendance is crucial for academic success, and this evaluation will help identify areas for improvement.
•Pupil Attendance: Examining student participation in academic activities. Consistent pupil attendance is vital for academic achievement, and this assessment will help schools develop strategies to improve student engagement.
•Teacher-to-Pupil Ratio: Evaluating class sizes and teacher workload to ensure that students receive adequate attention and support. An optimal teacher-to-pupil ratio is essential for effective teaching and learning.
•Infrastructure Quality: Assessing the condition and suitability of school facilities, including classrooms, libraries, and sanitation facilities. Safe and conducive learning environments are vital for student well-being and academic achievement.
Regional Directors of Education have been tasked with notifying school heads to prepare and support the inspection process. This exercise is a crucial aspect of GALOP's accountability system, backed by the Government and development partners like the World Bank.
The inspection underscores GES's commitment to quality assurance and data-driven policy implementation in the education sector. With GALOP having supported over 10,000 schools since its launch in 2019, this initiative marks another significant step towards improving educational outcomes in Ghana.
