Central Regional Education Directorate Warns Against Illegal Collection of Money from BECE Candidates

GES Warns Against Unauthorised Collection of Money from BECE Candidates.

The Regional Education Directorate has issued a strong warning to all Heads of Basic Schools within the Central Region regarding the illegal collection of money from candidates registered for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

According to a notice dated June 5, 2025, some schools have been reported to be collecting money from BECE candidates under the claim that it is meant for supervisors and invigilators.

The Directorate has described this act as completely unacceptable, stressing that it is a criminal offence and a violation of the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) for the conduct of the BECE. Heads of schools found collecting or directing others to collect such money are ordered to stop the practice immediately. In addition, any money already collected for this purpose must be refunded in full to the affected candidates by Monday, June 9, 2025. Non-compliance with this directive will lead to serious administrative consequences.

The notice further emphasizes that only officially assigned supervisors and invigilators are permitted to be present at examination centres. It warns that no teacher who has not been officially assigned as an invigilator or supervisor should be found loitering in or around any examination centre throughout the examination period.

The Regional Directorate is calling on all Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education to ensure strict compliance with the directive and closely monitor activities at all examination centres. The GES assures all stakeholders that it is committed to maintaining discipline, transparency, and fairness in the conduct of the BECE.
