Adventist SHS student accidentally shot in the eye regains sight after successful surgery in UK

Suzzy Adwoa Pinamang, a second-year student at Adventist Senior High School, is steadily recovering after undergoing a successful eye surgery in the United Kingdom

The operation took place on June 2, 2025, at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, one of the world’s leading institutions in eye care.

Earlier this year, Suzzy sustained a severe eye injury from an accidental gunshot. The incident, which shocked many across the country, sparked widespread concern and a call for immediate intervention.

With the support of businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama, she was flown to the UK for specialized treatment that offered the best possible chance at saving her sight. Rafik Mahama, Special Aide to Mr. Mahama, confirmed that the procedure went well and that Suzzy has already started regaining her vision and independence.

In a message of appreciation, heartfelt thanks were extended to the medical teams in both Ghana and the UK. The statement emphasized the professionalism and compassion demonstrated throughout Suzzy’s treatment process, particularly by the specialists at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Recognition was also given to Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Ghana High Commission in London, British High Commissioner Harriet Thompson, and Minister Francis Asenso-Boakye for their efforts in supporting the young student.

The message also acknowledged the contributions of Suzzy’s family, Roger Pope Opticians, media outlets, and members of the public who offered prayers and support during her difficult time. Their encouragement and solidarity, both in Ghana and abroad, played an essential role in keeping her hopeful throughout the journey.

Her recovery continues to bring hope to many, as loved ones and supporters remain optimistic about her full healing. The strength she has shown in the face of adversity has inspired countless others and highlighted the importance of community, timely intervention, and compassion in the face of life’s most challenging moments.

As she continues to recover, Suzzy is expected to return to her studies in due course, and her story remains a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when collective support meets determination and expert care.
