Steps to Take When Your Salary Point Fails to Move Upwards on Your Payslip
How to Correct a Stagnant Salary Point on Your Payslip
Your salary point is expected to increase annually, usually in September or the month you received your last upgrade or promotion. For example, if you’re on Point 1, you should automatically move to Point 2 the following year, and so on. However, if your salary point remains unchanged, action must be taken to correct it.In such cases, it is advisable to consult your district IPPD coordinator or report the issue to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
Many employees fail to track these changes, yet regularly reviewing your payslip is vital. Your current salary point should align with your length of service within your present rank or grade.
Issues You Can Resolve Through the CAGD Portal
The Controller’s platform allows you to report and resolve a variety of payroll-related issues, such as:
- Promotion not captured
- Salary underpayment
- Salary paid but missing bank details
- Incorrect bank account information
- Unpaid salaries or allowances
- Outstanding salary arrears
- Salary wrongly paid into government chest
- Wrong date of birth
- Incorrect salary grade or step
- Mistaken management unit
- Spelling errors in your name
- Unprocessed upgrades
Why Salary Point Adjustments Matter
If your salary point isn’t updated, you remain on the same pay level for years. This limits your earnings unless there’s a national salary increment. Unfortunately, administrative lapses sometimes prevent these automatic adjustments from taking effect.
While contacting your IPPD coordinator remains an option, you can also submit a formal complaint through the GoG E-Payslip portal without involving any third parties.
Be cautious of anyone asking for money to help fix salary issues. Sharing your payslip details with unauthorized individuals may expose you to scams, including ghost loans taken in your name.

Alternative Option: Use the ESPV System
Another effective way to correct your salary point is through the Salary Payment Voucher (SPV) validation. You can request your school’s ESPV validator to flag your salary underpayment during the next validation cycle. This action will prompt the system to register your correction officially.
Filing a Formal Written Complaint.
If the digital options don’t yield results, prepare a physical request as follows:
- Write a formal letter explaining the issue
- Obtain a cover letter from your Head of Department
- Attach three of your most recent payslips
- Submit the documents to the CAGD representative in your region or deliver them to the Controller’s office in Accra
Ensure you hand-deliver these documents to an authorized officer to prevent delays or misplacement.
Final Reminder
Always monitor your payslip to ensure your salary point reflects your current grade and years of service. Use only official channels to correct discrepancies. Avoid middlemen who charge fees or offer shortcuts—they may compromise your financial security.
