Unemployed trained teachers demand urgent recruitment action from government

Unemployed trained teachers demand urgent recruitment action from government.

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT), representing graduates from the 2023 batch of all 46 accredited Public Colleges of Education across Ghana, has appealed urgently to government officials for immediate recruitment into the education sector.

In a recent statement, the coalition called on the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to address the increasing challenges faced by its members. Despite meeting all academic and professional requirements—completing the four-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme, passing the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE), and finishing their mandatory National Service in February 2025—CUTT members remain without employment.

“The silence from government officials is causing serious financial, emotional, and psychological strain on our members nationwide,” the statement said. “We are prepared and eager to contribute, yet our skills and training continue to go unused. We can no longer stay quiet while our futures hang in the balance.”

CUTT demands two key actions: the Ministry of Finance must grant financial clearance to enable recruitment, and the Ministry of Education alongside GES must promptly open the recruitment portal.

With thousands of qualified and licensed teachers still waiting, the coalition warned that further delays will deepen the unemployment crisis and waste valuable talent in the education sector.

The group assured the public that it will continue to engage stakeholders and the media until their concerns are addressed.
