Unemployed Diploma Teachers from 2018–2020 Call for Government Action.
A group of teachers who graduated from Ghana's accredited Colleges of Education between 2018 and 2020 is raising alarms over their prolonged unemployment
These diploma holders, despite meeting all the requirements, have not been posted to any teaching positions due to complications arising from the introduction of the licensure exam.
The teachers have been waiting for employment for several years, and their situation is becoming increasingly dire. Many have had to take on menial jobs to make ends meet, while others have had to rely on family and friends for support.
The teachers, who have been waiting for employment for several years, shared their frustration with the government, explaining that their multiple appeals and letters to previous administrations had gone unanswered.
The Ministry of Education cited delays from the Ministry of Finance as the reason for the holdup, yet follow-up attempts were met with silence.
Despite previous efforts to engage in picketing and peaceful protests, no progress has been made. The teachers feel that their voices are not being heard, and their concerns are being ignored.
With the new government in power, the group is optimistic that their plea will finally be considered, hoping for a government that values youth employment and national development.
The group stressed they are not seeking charity but an opportunity to contribute their skills and knowledge to the development of the country.
They believe that their qualifications and training make them valuable assets to the education sector, and they are eager to serve their country.
They are requesting a formal invitation to discuss employment opportunities with the government, in the hopes of finding a solution to their prolonged unemployment.
The leaders of this group are.
1. Yopee Raymond – President, Jasikan College of Education
2. Christabel Sedinam – Vice President, St. Teresa’s College of Education, Hohoe
3. Darku Saviour Korsi – Member, Jasikan College of Education
4. Ntem David – Member, Akatsi College of Education
5. Akpaku Daniel – Member, Peki College of Education
6. Asiamah Abena Asantewaa – General Secretary, Holy Spirit College of Education
In conclusion, the teachers are calling on the government to swiftly address their concerns and provide them with the opportunity to serve the country. They believe that their qualifications and training make them valuable assets to the education sector, and they are eager to contribute to the development of Ghana.
