SSA-UoG Suspends Nationwide Strike After Government Response
Senior Staff Association- Universities of Ghana suspends strike.
The Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has announced the suspension of its nationwide strike, effective Thursday, May 22, 2025.
The strike, which was embarked upon by SSA-UoG, the Technical University Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG), and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG) on Wednesday, was called off following the government's response to their longstanding demands regarding the implementation of a negotiated agreement.
According to a statement issued by the union on Thursday, the Ministry of Finance has released a letter authorizing the implementation of the agreement, effective November 2024. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has also issued a directive authorizing universities to commence payments immediately.
Members of the union have been instructed to resume work on Friday, May 23, 2025.
The SSA-UoG has expressed satisfaction with the government's positive response to their demands, describing it as a result of their collective action and strong advocacy.
The union has also commended the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, and the Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, for their commitment and efforts in resolving the matter.
In the statement, the National Chairman of SSA-UoG said, "On behalf of our sister unions TUAAG and FUSSAG and on my behalf, we are pleased to inform you that following our collective action and strong advocacy, the Government has responded positively to our demands."
