Savannah GES Sets Dates for SISOs' Training on 2025 Mosquito Net Distribution
GES Savannah Region to Train SISOs for Upcoming 2025 Insecticide-Treated Net Distribution to Learners
The Savannah Regional office of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has outlined plans to hold a one-day face-to-face training session for all School Improvement Support Officers (SISOs) across the region.
The initiative is part of preparations for the 2025 nationwide rollout of free Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) to pupils in basic schools.
A circular issued on May 5, 2025, by the Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah, confirmed that the session follows an earlier virtual briefing involving Regional School Health Education Programme (SHEP) Coordinators and District Directors.
The aim of the training is to strengthen the SISOs’ understanding and capacity for distributing, using, and maintaining the mosquito nets. This year’s campaign is targeting learners in Primary 2 and Primary 6 from both public and private basic schools within the region.
The training has been arranged into two groups. The first group, Cohort A, which includes SISOs from East Gonja, North East Gonja, and Central Gonja, will meet on May 7, 2025, at TAMASCO in Tamale. Cohort B, comprising officers from Bole, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, West Gonja, and North Gonja, will gather on May 8, 2025, at the Municipal Health Directorate in Damongo.
Municipal and District Directors have been encouraged to ensure full participation by releasing all SISOs under their supervision. The Directorate stressed the importance of the training, noting its critical role in promoting learners’ health and preventing malaria through the widespread use of treated nets.
Stakeholders have been called upon to support this public health initiative for its successful implementation across schools in the Savannah Region.
